PuzzleMaker

Features

PuzzleMaker is an XTensions module which offers QuarkXPress users the ability to quickly, accurately, and easily create puzzle grids. Crosswords, word searches, trailblazer puzzles — all of them can be produced in a fraction of the time previously taken.

PuzzleMaker, using specially designed menus and tools, has been tested in a production environment and enables the user to define the puzzle layout to a maximum of 50 x 50 squares. Text attributes, coloring, automatic numbering, and patterns are available.

The special reflection tool simplifies pattern definition considerably with tools for horizontal, vertical, diagonal, and crossed. A random pattern is also available. The desired pattern can be designed in black and white or color. It can also be done using text or illustrations, and the numbering always automatically fits the pattern.

To make trailblazer puzzles, the user defines the splits for the boxes where needed and assigns arrows in the direction.

Illustrations can be quickly imported into a puzzle grid, and a finished puzzle, using standard QuarkXPress techniques, is easily scaled to suit the page available. The final puzzles can be saved in an easily accessible library for use in a new QuarkXPress document. With the text module fill in the final solution, and with a simple command it can be eliminated offering a productive tool for end control of the final design.

PuzzleMaker capitalizes on the speed and ease of use of QuarkXPress and is a very productive and timesaving XTensions module. Grid accuracy is greatly improved and operator frustration greatly reduced.
