Headers & Contents XTn creates running headers and/or footers and indices in QuarkXPress.

The headers and/or footers data can be marked in three different ways:

• defining QuarkXPress style sheets for the page headers and at the same time dedicate those style sheets to a header or footer level (this is the most common method of marking text);

• tagging the data using special markers (these markers will be automatically hidden using the Headers XTn palette so as not to affect the line endings of text and this method should be used if the headers data is a fragment of a paragraph); or

• using the mouse and the Headers XTn palette (this is the most time-consuming method and not recommended for use to mark hundreds of entries).

Headers XTn supports up to nine levels of running headers. On output, the levels will be updated automatically. The running headers and/or footers data can be formatted in many different ways, such as: make capitals, make lower case, and make small caps, just to name a few. Invisible text can be hidden within body text and used to generate running headers and/or footers.

Headers XTn can abbreviate running headers in order to produce a common syntax where only the first three or four characters of an entry are included in the header. Headers XTn supports the most common output styles such as the first or the last entry of a column, but also it repeats the previous entry of the last page if there is no new entry of the first line of the actual page. Additionally, the header and/or footer information can come from the left and right of a spread rather than from a single page.
